To access the KU Network your computer must be equipped with a device referred to as a Network Card.
Other common names for this device include: Ethernet Card, NIC, or 10/100 card.
All these names reference the same device.
If you have a desktop computer you will have an internal PCI version of this card,
or if you are a laptop user it will be in the form of a PCMCIA card.
Most computers purchased in the last 2 years include this device.
For computers that do not already have it, ResNet provides these for a small fee,
and will install them at no charge.
You may purchase one of these cards from ResNet by going to the NTS office in the basement of McCollum Hall.
If you are unsure if you have a Network card, there are several ways to check for yourself.
A Network card uses RJ45 cable which looks very similar to standard phone cable but the connector is slightly larger.
Your network card will look similar to a modem, but will only have one place to make a connection,
and the jack will be slightly larger to accommodate the larger RJ45 connector.
