Many wireless connection utilities display an icon in the bottom right corner of the Windows screen. The icons for these utilities often look like an antenna or a signal strength indicator.
Some typical wireless icons:

Many of the utilities can be opened by right-clicking on the icon. Some of them will allow you to disable the utility or let Windows manage wireless connections from the resulting menu.
Many KU students are using Dell computers. Follow the instructions below to open the Dell utility: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/network/p70008/EN/utility.htm
Uncheck Let this tool manage your wireless networks and click OK to save your change.
Before buying a USB adapter, make sure that your computer meets all the other system requirements; a new adapter in an old Windows 98 machine won’t work because Windows 98 can’t support WPA2.

Here are some troubleshooting questions that might help you figure out why you can’t connect.
Only IT ResNet customers paying for internet connectivity in their room can use the IT ResNet wireless network.
If you aren’t currently a ResNet subscriber, there’s still time to register for ResNet service this semester. ResNet internet service costs $98.45 per semester. To register, follow the instructions at http://www.resnet.ku.edu/before.shtml .
Sometimes the network settings on a machine are so messed up that it can’t do ANY network connections. Contact IT ResNet for help.
Your KU Online ID information is stored in the Windows registry (in an encrypted form) so that you can reconnect to the IT ResNet network without having to sign in each time. The only way to enter your new password is to clear out the old password from the Windows Registry.
Contact ResNet for instructions about how to delete the old password in the registry settings so that the IT ResNet wireless network will ask you for the new password the next time you sign in.
The IT ResNet network is different from the Jayhawk wireless network on the rest of campus. If you haven’t used the IT ResNet wireless network before, you will need to configure your connection the first time that you connect. (See #3, above.)
Any wireless network can become slow to respond if there are a lot of devices connecting in the same location, if the devices are using a lot of network resources, or if the wireless signal is weak because you’re too far away.
Try connecting again in a few minutes or in a nearby IT ResNet wireless zone. If you’re on the edges of a wireless zone, move toward the middle, see if the signal gets stronger and try again.
If you have questions about IT ResNet wireless, ResNet Computing Consultants (RCCs) will be available in the following locations to assist you. We’ll schedule more hours onsite the week of November 10-15 if necessary.
